We had a snow day yesterday. It was lovely. I don't even care that we have to make it up. I had such a nice day. Cory and I got up early in order to beat the old Italian guy outside to sweep all of the sidewalks. SCORE! We beat him. It was still a little bit dark outside though. Then Cory had to go to school. He is taking classes to be a school counselor. This week he took a five day class. I told him that in a few years when he is a real counselor, he will get to enjoy snow days with us!

I got a little bit of housework done. Then we went over Grammies to hang with Avery and play in the snow. The kids played in the snow; I played with Avery. (lol)

We've had quite an eventful week. I am glad things are settling down a big. Apparently, Isaiah goes to school with four racist punks. Excuse my language, but I call it as I see it. These four individuals have been using racial slurs pretty much the entire school year... along with just saying randomly offensive things to some of the black and mixed kids on a daily basis. Last Wednesday, one of the kids made a racial comment to Isaiah's friend. Then Isaiah's friend got mad and told Isaiah the whole story. Next thing anyone knew, this kid PUNCHED Isaiah in the back of the head as he was walking to class TWICE! It was HORRIBLE. The nurse called me at school to come and get Isaiah. When I walked into that nurse's office, I was shocked to see the huge knot on my baby's poor head. We went to the doctor and it was confirmed that Isaiah had a grade 1 concussion.

I called the kid a punk because this is what punks do: they pick on kids who are half their size and they punch them in the back of the head, not even giving them a chance to fight, and they hit kids who had nothing to do with the situation in the first place because actually they are afraid of the kid who was really involved!

I was furious. And what infuriated me even more was the principal telling me that Isaiah called this kid names and actually instigated this attack. After a few very upsetting emails, Cory and I met with the principal. Thankfully for the principal, he did his homework before our conference and learned what he should have known from the beginning:

#1 Isaiah is not a trouble maker. He is a straight A student. He is the student council president, particiates in the gifted program, art club, African Drums Team and represents Rochester very well. He is the youngest and the smallest kid in the entire 8th grade class at Rochester.

#2 The kid who hit him is a troublemaker. He runs the streets of Rochester. He has broken into the school before. He has a probation officer. He has anger issues. He is as tall as me. He is a Racist Punk!

Understanding these key pieces of information made our meeting go well. The kid did get a 4 day out of school suspension. The other boys invovled, who like to use racial slurs, have not been disciplined yet. Hopefully soon though. We did file a police report for documentation purposes. We have up to two years in order to press charges. As of now, I don't think we are pressing charges, but we will see.

I felt so bad for Isaiah. I could throw up just thinking of him getting hit like that. I told his principal, who, by the way, is new this year, that I have worked in a middle school for over 15 years. I have seen a great deal bad things in those years. This incident with Isaiah ranks up there with some of the worst things I have ever seen. I told him this is very very bad.

Isaiah is much better now. The knot on his head has gone down and he is allowed to play basketball again. We are covering him in prayer each and every morning. We have even prayed for the other kid who hit him. I have to give it to Isaiah...he is holding his head up high and he is not afraid. Phone calls and texts just poured in last week. People even dropped of bags of candy for Isaiah. I told him that the outpouring of concern and kindness is a true testament of who he is. He carries himself in such a kind and nice way, and people really care for him. We were so thankful to everyone to reached out and showed their support to us.

Well, that is done and over and I am thankful.

On a much lighter note, Jordan is having a blast. I text him the other night and he had to get back to me later because he was "making pottery". Not sure why, but that struck me very very funny!

God bless and protect Isaiah...you and Cory are excellent parents and you instill great values into my niece and nephews. Lord help that other child...evidently he has problems at home and was not raised in a loving environment.

That kid must have known that Biggie Jordan Big J Biggie Bigger Biggest Hauser is in New Mexico.

That kid is insane. I'll pray for his mental health. Too bad that kid doesn't have parents like you and Cory, or a teacher like you, or a counselor like Cory, or a friend like Isaiah...

After all, you're the kind of people who think YOU score when you shovel other people's sidewalks in the dark.

;)
