We had a wonderful Easter.
We dyed eggs. We had our annual Easter Egg Hunt. This year I tried something new. I googled riddles and gave the kids those for their clues. They had to decipher the riddle and then locate the egg. Isaiah is very good at riddles. He figured most of them out. The kids enjoyed it. I decided to do the egg hunt on Saturday night this year instead of Sunday morning. That proved to be a good choice. Normally, Sundays are so crazy..rushing around to get ready for church, then visiting relatives all day. Plus the hunt took a little bit longer than usual because of the riddles. I told the kids I think we will do it this way every year from now on. They liked that idea because now they get their candy a few hours earlier!
We watched "The Ten Commandments" on Easter Eve. That is a tradition for us. I love that movie. Jeremiah likes the plagues. Each time we watch it, I catch something I've missed in past years. This year, I realized that the woman Moses saved from the stone was actually his real mother. I love seeing all of the Egyptian women's costumes. Can't imagine wearing all that gold like they did.
I had a wonderful break. It was so nice to get away from work for a few days. It's been pretty crazy there. Our district asked us to take a pay freeze. We politely declined because we have already taken pay freezes. Not sure if we are being punished or what, but they have furloughed 4 teachers and 9 support staff. 8 teachers retired. They eliminated 11 positions from my building alone. This was all done before they asked us to freeze. Now, apparently, they are laying off more teachers. It is getting interesting.
Tom Corbett could find the cure for cancer and I would still not be a fan of his. How do you cut millions and millions of dollars from school districts all across Pennsylvania and then give yourself and your staff an 11 percent raise? Seriously how does he sleep at night?! I guess, pretty comfortably in his Governor's Mansion!
We have made such great strides in education over the past few years. I feel like with these ridiculous cuts we are just taking so many steps backwards.
ON a much lighter and happier note....my children are doing great. Jordan changed his major. He is now a philosophy/business major. He seems to be really happy with that decision. Isaiah and Jeremiah have started baseball. Isaiah has also been training with Jon Miller for basketball. He is really loving that. Jeremiah has been rocking his trumpet. He's getting so much better. Corynne is playing softball. She had to adjust a bit because she played baseball last year. She's doing great. I am actually helping coach her team. I don't know a ton about softball, so I am learning with her. I learned a really important lesson the first night. I am used to playing catch with Corynne. Corynne is not scared of the ball and catches very well. I can't say that for all the girls on her team. I had to play catch with one little girl the first night. I tossed the girl the ball. She tried to catch it, but it hit her in her face. She cried. I felt horrible. I am more careful now.
We got about 7 more weeks of school! Yeah!

Jessie,
Regarding the Ten Commandments, this time I noticed that the Pharaoh's sister that raised Moses, when she went to their house during the final plague and her footmen asked to come into the house, they were allowed in. When Moses was on the mountain and the people returned to worshiping idols, those footmen were still with them and did not take part in the idol worship; you see them coming to stand with Moses before he throws the tablets at the sinners. I love that movie.
I love it too Aunt Footie. I will have to look for those things you noticed next time it is on.
We just certified a contract after tough negotiations. We're on a 3 year freeze and we'll lose some of our base after the governor's budget bill goes through. The contract keeps our health care the same for three years no matter what the governor does and it saves 6 percent of our base that two of his bills would take away. Ugly. Frustrating. Should have gone to truck driving school. I've lost money every year I've taught for the last 5 years or so. Booooo.
Glad your kids are doing great. Go Corynne! If I played catch with Corynne I'm pretty sure she'd hit ME in the face. I feel for that little girl you played catch with. Some of us are better at keeping score. ;)
