We had our field trip today at Racoon State Park. It was fun. It is all based on the book "Hatchet". The book is about a boy who gets stranded in the Canadian wilderness. He must learn how to survive with only a hatchet. The people at Racoon State Park get really mad at us every year when they find out we haven't read the book. But the book is kind of boring. It is more of a "boy" book. And I'm only allowed to teach two books during the school year. That one isn't even on my top ten list! But we had a good time. We got to throw spears, make fire with flint, check out animal tracks and eat cat-tails, acorns, and other plants. I think the kids had a good time. I'm so glad that the weather was nice. Christa Viarreal (sp) on Channel 11 news said it was going we were going to have thundershowers today. (I really don't like her--but I like channel 11) Thank goodness she was wrong!
Jeremiah has another t--ball game tonight. Last night, Isaiah made an amazing catch on third base. It was so good that they gave him the MVP of the game and the game ball. I'm not really sure if there is a such thing as a "MVP" of the game--but that's what the coaches told him and it made his day!

I like Hatchet but it is definitely a boy book. I read it with a group of boys at the beginning of the year. They would love to go to Racoon Park!
Congrats to your MVP!
I'm glad another teacher agrees with me about that book. The one teacher at work is a little upset with me because I didn't do it--but like I said, they have us so constrained on what we are and aren't allowed to do.
Jessie,
Justin had to read that book in school just a couple years ago. He liked it but not a lot. So good of you to eat those wild things. I like to try new things, but cattails and acorns are not on the list.
.....Please....Do not bring up again the failings of this governments educational policies, it only causes me more chest pain....I voted for the tall "smart" guys.....Your 'Bup' supported the short "Yahoo"....Seriously, I thought teachers are supposed to - teach, how to LEARN, not how much info you can cram into their little heads for just enough time to take their test.....but what the heck do I know?...By the way if you need help with that hatchet thingee....I can "learn" your students how to make boats out of them picnic tables ( It is said that G. Washington used this very book, and 'Warriors Bend State Park' picnic tables to get across the Delaware) and with Cory's skill at angling we could load the boats up with trout as we sail across the lake.
