I want to talk more about the bodies exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center. The doctors in China put together this exhibit. The exhibit is all real life bodies of real life people. I kept forgetting that while we were walking through the exhibit and reading all the information. It was so amazing. I was amazed at the way our bodies are designed. There were so many nerves and tendons and muscles and veins--I couldn't believe how much goes into making our bodies function. The doctors who put this together are brilliant in my book. The way that they chose showcase the various body parts was truly unbelievable. One of the last rooms contained fetuses. Anyone who says that life begins at birth needs to see this exhibit. They had miscarried babies from 2 weeks all the way up to 28 weeks. At just a few weeks, you can already make out the baby's head and eyes and where the arms and legs will be. I just walked through there thanking God that I never had to experience a miscarriage nor an abortion.
Other things I learned:
1. I am so glad I got to keep my spleen. I think it is an important organ to keep.
2. Kidneys are much smaller than I thought they were.
3. I can't believe that tiny gall bladder caused me such excruciating pain time and time again.
4. Smoker's lungs are horrifying.
5. Our intestines are very very very very very very long.
6. There are so many nerves in our hands.
7. Cory does not need to be in the same room with exposed male genitalia.
8. Teachers can be very annoying. (It was a special teacher night and tons of them were just walking around telling their spouses EVERYTHING they knew! I wanted to say, "If you know everything, then you should have stayed home. And nobody cares that your word of the week was 'meticulous' and you can use it in a sentence describing the way the Chinese doctors cut the bodies for the displays!" But I didn't say a word. I rolled my eyes a few times and walked away from some people. Why are we (teachers) so annoying? I don't think I am that annoying. But if you are ever hanging with me and I start to get annoying, please please please tell me.
9. $22.50 is way worth the money to see this exhibit. (Although my ticket was free)
The exhibit will be in Pittsburgh until May 8. Check out the website above and you can see some of the displays.
