We didn't have school today because it was a snow day and I was sooooooooooooo happy! I had another "I'd rather stick a pen in my eyeball than sit through one more second of this" inservice day on Monday. So our students only had a three day week. You would think that it would be an easy week because it was only three days. WRONG! Not in my Middle school! Having a day off school translates into--"act like a complete and total idiot for the time that you are there". On Friday, I actually felt like I was babysitting kids in need of Nanny 911 rather than teaching Reading to sixth graders. They acted like total fools. I couldn't even believe it. What made matters worse is that the kids got their midterm grades the day before and quite a few of them are doing bad because they don't feel the need to do their homework. And when they tell their parents that they don't have any homework, the parents believe them. So you would think that they would have the mind set to work very hard to try and bring their grade up. Wrong Again! I am so mad this week because I sent out 22 hand-written letters to my students' parents who have D's or F's in my class right now. (Let me add that it is totally ridiculous to have a D or an F in my Reading class) But anyway, I sent out 22 letters with my work phone number in hopes that I would hear from the parents. Guess how many parents called me back?! ONE!!!
Enough said!

You deserve a snow day for putting up with all that nonsense. I love my job and there are a lot of moments in my classroom that make me glad I chose this profession. Then there are moments when I wish I would have gone to school to be a truck driver. Sometimes heading south on a highway gazing at the scenery while listening to the radio sounds a lot more appealing than being surrounded by a bunch of undisciplined, ungrateful, unmotivated 12-year-olds.
