I am officially on Easter Vacation! I couldn't be happier! I have 7 whole days off. Well, I have a lot of work to do around this house, so I'm not sure if they are actually days "off" or not. (smile)
I'm happy to report that the teachers beat the eighth grade boys in our annual facutly basketball game. But those boys put up an excellent fight. We only won by one point. But we do remain undefeated!
I'm so glad to have a break from work. It was getting kind of crazy. The kids have been having some difficulties following the rules. I guess they think that since there is only two days of school in a week that the rules don't apply. My classes have actually been very good though because we read a book on the Titanic. They really like learning about the Titanic. Most of them have seen the movie so it makes it really easy to teach. When we come back from Easter Break, we are going to read a book called "Number the Stars". It's a book about the Holocaust--which the students also like learning about. The book tells about the Danish Resistance during the Holocaust. The non-Jewish people of Denmark smuggled almost all of the Jewish people out of Denmark to Sweden where they would be safe from Hitler and the Nazis. The book combines the real events that took place and a really good fictional story to make it interesting. I decorated my whole back wall again. I will post pictures soon. I am so excited to teach the book. It really helps me to get through the last 6 weeks of school. This is the time when the kids would rather do anything than their school work!

I'm reading Number the Stars after break too! It's one of my favorite books to teach. It stimulates great discussions. Each class has to pick a country to study for Right to Read Week, and we are studying Denmark.
Do you get all of next week off too, or do your seven days count the weekend? Enjoy your break!
I'm glad school's over too! Break won't last long enough though;)
Jamie,
My break includes the weekend. :-(
We go back next Wed. But that is two more days off than we usually get. I'm going to email this website we found for Number the Stars--it's really good.
